Four principles guide everything we do — and everything we deliver.
Expert We bring deep governance knowledge, professional credibility, and practical insight drawn from senior leadership experience across some of the UK's most complex organisations. Our clients can be confident they are working with people who have operated at the highest levels of governance — not just studied it.
Independent We provide honest, objective advice with no conflicts of interest and no agenda other than what is right for your organisation. Our clients can trust that what we tell them reflects our genuine, unvarnished assessment — delivered with candour and in their best interests.
Efficient We respect our clients' time. Our work is structured, purposeful, and delivered with pace and clarity — cutting through the complexity of governance without cutting corners. Quality and rigour do not need to come at the expense of speed and certainty.
Practical We believe governance should be clear, usable, and immediately actionable — not theoretical, jargon-heavy, or unnecessarily complex. Everything we produce is designed to be understood, owned, and acted on by the people responsible for making governance work in practice.
Five ways we help your business govern with confidence — and grow with clarity.
Embedding Governance Into Your Business Good governance isn't an optional nice-to-have or a box-ticking exercise — it's a core part of how a healthy business operates. We help you weave governance into your culture, processes, and decision-making so it becomes second nature, not a burden.
Turning Complex Governance Into Clarity Regulatory requirements, board structures, compliance obligations — governance can feel overwhelming. We cut through the complexity and translate it into clear, practical steps your leadership and teams can actually understand and act on.
Upskilling Your Organisation The best governance isn't dependent on outside help forever. We invest in building capability within your business — equipping your people with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to own governance themselves and sustain it long after we've worked together.
Future-Proofing Your Business The regulatory landscape changes. Your business grows. New risks emerge. We help you build governance that doesn't just work today but is designed to flex and scale with you — so you're always ahead of what's coming, not scrambling to catch up.
Always Acting in Your Best Interests We put your business first. Our advice is honest, independent, and entirely focused on what's right for you, not what's easiest or most convenient.
Our Story
Governance has a reputation problem.
For too long, it's been seen as the preserve of lawyers and regulators — dense, complicated, and intimidating. Something you deal with when things go wrong, not something that helps you get things right.
We started Governance Connect Advisory because we believed it didn't have to be that way.
Good governance isn't a dark art. At its heart, it's simply about running your business with clarity, accountability, and confidence — knowing your foundations are solid and your decisions are sound.
We're here to demystify it. To translate the complex into the practical, and help leaders see governance not as a burden, but as one of the most powerful tools they have.
Because when governance is done right, it's not a constraint. It's a competitive advantage.
Our strength is our network. We bring together seasoned governance professionals from across industries, giving you access to the right expertise at the right time — without the overhead of a large consultancy.
Meet the Founder
Governance Connect Advisory was founded by Steven Jones, a governance and accountability specialist with over a decade of senior leadership experience across some of the UK's most complex organisations.
Steven has spent his career helping organisations govern well — bringing clarity to accountability structures, rigour to risk management frameworks, and strategic confidence to boards and leadership teams navigating significant change. With extensive experience leading governance functions at scale, he has overseen complex accountability frameworks, managed multi-stakeholder structures, and advised senior leaders and boards on risk, compliance, and performance across some of the UK's largest and most complex organisations.
Steven is a member of the Chartered Governance Institute, and has completed the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme, and holds postgraduate qualifications in Leadership and Management. He is a Civil Service Future Leaders Scheme alumnus and holds practitioner-level certifications in programme management, change management, and agile delivery.
As a Board Member of Transport for London's Independent Disability Advisory Group (IDAG), he provides strategic advice on accessibility and inclusion across high-profile projects — from the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street to inclusive communications campaigns — ensuring compliance with equality legislation and embedding best practice in transport planning and delivery.
Alongside his professional work, Steven is deeply committed to disability advocacy. He is a member of both SMA UK's Adult Committee and SMA Europe's Adult Committee, championing the interests of adults living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and sharing his personal experience at international forums. This lived experience directly informs Disability Connect, the consultancy Steven founded to deliver disability inclusion insight and reverse mentoring programmes to public, private, and third-sector organisations — helping them build genuinely inclusive cultures and meet their obligations under the Equality Act 2010.
His experience spans board secretariat, risk management, regulatory compliance, performance reporting, and leading high-performing teams under pressure — giving clients a rare combination of strategic thinking and practical delivery expertise.
Governance Connect Advisory draws on a network of experienced governance professionals to deliver tailored, high-quality support. If you would like to discuss how we can add value to your organisation, we would welcome the opportunity to connect.
